Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Nov. 8, at Plainview Baptist Church, with interment following at Toro Cemetery. The Rev. Hoy Leach, the Rev. Buddy Airhart, and the Rev. Melvin Smith officiated. Survivors include his wife of 73 years, Ruby Thaxton Alford of Plainview; sons, Gene Alford and wife Gay, and Travis Alford and wife Betty, all of Hornbeck, Billy Alford of Plainview, Raymon Alford and wife Judy of Florien, Robert Alford and wife Margie of Clayton, Ga., and Philip Alford and wife Melba of Florien; two daughters, Elizabeth Alford of Florien, and Nita Alford of Hornbeck; 40 grandchildren; 81 great grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Ruby Ernestine; mother, Lizzie Ellzey Dowden; sisters, Loma Moore, and Elisie Chance; and great granddaughter, Rena Lacy Alford. Warren Meadows, Many, La.
