The truck was owned by Kenneth DuBose Co. of Many. Warren Lee Alizzi was sitting on the tailgate of a vehicle traveling east of Hornbeck, on the Plainview Road near the Hornbeck city limits at the time of the fatal accident, according to state police officials. The driver of the truck, 14 year old Jerry D. Grant of Zwolle, lost control of the vehicle, when one of the nine passengers, Rickey Scott, fell against the driver, causing him to lose control, the state police officials reported. As Grant lost control of the truck, the vehicle ran through a ditch, up an embankment, throwing Alizzi from the truck, and killing him, the official said. The other eight youths, many who were traveling in the cab of the truck, were employed by the DuBose company, and apparently escaped serious injury in the accident. Grant was issued a citation by the police for operating a vehicle without a license. It was reported that the youth had informed the foreman of the business firm, that he had a license to drive. Alizzi was pronounced dead at the scene by Vernon Parish Coroner, Dr. S. J. Jones.
