Allen Mrs. Mary Ann Bufkin Allen, 85, of Converse, died Sunday, March 18, at 12:28 a.m., after a very lengthy illness. She died in the Allen Sanitarium, which Mrs. Allen's husband, the late Dr. William G. Allen founded. Funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church in Converse Monday, March 19, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Shelton Berryman officiating, assisted by the Rev. Jerry Schmucker, the Rev. Alvin Strother, and the Rev. W. E. Spencer. Interment was in the Oak Grove Cemetery, under the direction of Warren Meadows Funeral Home. Her body was taken to the First Baptist Church in Converse, Monday morning at 9:30 to lie in state until service time. She was a Charter member of this Church. The surviving relatives are three daughters, Mrs. Annice Allen Tolbert, and Mrs. Alma Allen Foley, both of Shreveport, and Mrs. Mildred Murdock of Zwolle; one son, William Travis Allen of Converse; one brother, Plummer Bufkin of Shreveport, and one sister, Mrs. Lessie Bridges of Kilgore; 10 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. Pallbearers were Herbert Slay, Billy Munds, Bruce Teer, Sidney Sanders, Dan Bailey, Lloyd Allen Murdock, Bobby Foley, and William G. Allen II. Honorary Pallbearers were Chief Justice Joe Sanders, Dr. Donald Taylor, Dr. Jacqueline Morgan, and Harold Gates.
