Ret., USAF), 67, of Cortland, N. Y., died April 25, 1984, in the Cortland Memorial Hospital, after a long illness. He was born Dec. 21, 1916, in Cortland, the son of Salvadore and Mary Schembri Along, and was a life resident of the area. Col. Along graduated from St. Mary's High School, and SUNY, Cortland. He completed graduate work at Ohio State University, where he received his Master's Degree in the field of Accounting and Business Administration. He also attended George Washington University, under the Manpower Program, and many service schools. Cpl. Along retired in August 1967, after 27 years of service with the U. S. Air Force. After military retirement, he taught 6th grade at Homer Elementary School, then became the bursar at TC3, and most recently at SUNY, Cortland, from which he retired in September 1981. A communicant of St. Anthony's Church, he was a member of the Alumni board of SUNY, Cortland, Cortland American Legion Post, Cortland VFW, T.R.O.A., and the New York State Retired Teachers Association. His first wife, Willie Mae Hardin, a native of Sabine Parish, died in 1973. Surviving are his wife, Kathryn Johnson Along of Cortland; his son, Michael Along of Harnell; two daughters, Marylee Williams of Rochester, Jacqueline Carr of Federalsburg, Md.; three step children, Terry K. Perfetti of Groton, Thomas J. Perfetti of Vail, Colo., Gregory R. Perfetti of Raleigh, N. C.; eight grandchildren; his mother, Mrs. Mary Along of Cortland; two sisters, Mrs. John (Teresa) Zampino of Cortland, Mrs. Robert (Carmel) Fisher of Cinnaminson, N. J.; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. A Mass of Christian Burial was conducted Saturday at 10:30 a.m., in St. Mary's Church. Interment was in St. Mary's Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to the American Cancer Society.
