(Gladys) Ankrom of Vandalia, Missouri, were held on Wednesday, July 20, at 10 a.m., at Kirk's Funeral Home in Bowling Green, Missouri. Burial followed at West Prairie Cemetery near Middleton. Mrs. Ankrom died at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, Mo., at 9:15 p.m., Saturday, July 16, following a lengthy illness. She was 78. Local survivors include her daughter, Mrs. Raymond Barnhill; a granddaughter, Donna Smith Ammons, and a grandson, Derek W. Smith, all of Many. Also surviving are her husband, E. L. Ankrom of Vandalia; a son, Ronald E. Ankrom of San Bruno, Calif.; another grandson, and granddaughter; a sister; and two brothers. Born in Iowa, Mrs. Ankrom attended schools there before marrying and moving to Mason City, Iowa. The family moved to Garden Grove, Calif. In 1945, and then the couple retired back to Missouri in 1971. Canning, crocheting, and caring for her family were her hobbies.
