All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** The Sabine Index - Mary Andries 4 May 1934 - Miss Mary Andries, age 64, died at the family home at Many 5:30 p.m. Sunday and was interred in St. John's Catholic cemetery Tuesday morning following requiem mass by the Rev. Father N. F. Vandegaer assisted by Rev. Father H. F. VanHaver, Rev. Father R. M. Maure, Rev. Father John C. Vandegaer and the Pastor, Rev. Father M. L. Plauche at nine o'clock. Miss Andries is survived by two brothers, Henry and Thomas L. of Many. Deceased was born in Elmer, Rapides parish, came to Many when sixteen years of age with her parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. John Andries, when Many was hardly a community, and has ever since made her home in the same house just outside the city limits. Never married Miss Andries, was yet a devoted lover of children. At the time of the death of the late Dan Vandegaer, she took to rear two Vandegaer children, Daniel, Jr., deceased; and Nina, now Sister Thresa of the Order of Sisters of Divine Providence, stationed at Alexandria, Sister Theresa was only an infant at the time care by Miss Andries begun; she was able to spend a few hours with her foster mother Sunday before Miss Andries passed away. While not given to show, Miss Andries was a devoted Catholic, took pride in gathering flowers, decorating the altars, preparing communion bread, looking after vestments and altar linens, active in work among young girls, all of whom loved her. Many of the ladies of St. John's congregation had influence during their youth of Miss Mary Andries, all of whom will no doubt cherish her memory until death because of her devotion and sweet Christian spirit.
