Mr. Anderson was the son of Sabine pioneers Wick Lee Anderson of Florien, and Maggie Crowell Anderson of Sabine Town, Texas. His services were held in Many, at St. John's Catholic Church, on Monday, May 6, at 10 a.m., with burial following in the church cemetery, with his nine grandsons serving as pallbearers. Mr. Anderson served his country honorably in the Navy for six years, both before, and during World War II, and worked twenty eight years for Schulumberger Oil Well Surveying Co., primarily out of Shreveport. There, he and his wife, Cleta McCormic Anderson, raised a family of seven children, until he took early retirement because of poor health. The couple and their two youngest children returned home to Sabine Parish, bought land, and built their retirement home, where he remained active in the building trade, as well as working his farm, and with the Sabine Parish Police Jury. He taught all of his family the value of hard work, and gave them many gifts, among them a zest for life, a drive to excel, and a sense of justice, of right and fairness, and most of all, a strong faith in his loving Father. He was predeceased by his wife, Cleta; a young son, John Weldon Anderson; a grandson, Gary Anderson; a great granddaughter, Ashton McMillian; his younger brothers, L. C., and Luke Anderson; his parents, and stepmother, Ida Crowell Anderson; and a number of beloved cousins and friends. Survivors include seven children and their spouses, Pat Quayhagen and husband Jim, Margaret Basco and husband Darien, and Rose Gatti and Terry, all of Many, David Anderson and wife Ruth of Pearl River, Ray Anderson and wife Mary Ann of Lacomb, Mary Musser and husband Ron of Prairieville, and Lou Mancil and husband Mike of Midland, Texas; 19 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandson. He is survived as well, by a multitude of relatives on both sides of the Sabine River, and many friends he made wherever he went or lived. The family thanks his caregivers at the Ollie Steele Burden Manor Nursing Home in Baton Rouge, where he spent the last year and a half of his life. Memorials may be made in his name, to the Sabine Parish Library, especially for the purchase of large print books, or to any charity of the giver's choice.
