All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** The Sabine Index - William Hamilton Armstrong 2 Nov 1934 - Funeral services for William Hamilton Armstrong, age 77 years, 8 months and 21 days, were held at the Many Methodist Church Wednesday afternoon at 4:00 o'clock, with Rev. J. B. Williams and Rev. W. T. Gray officiating. Interment was in the Many cemetery. Judge Armstrong, as he was known to his many friends, died Wednesday morning at 12:30 in the family residence her after many weeks of illness. In 1908 he was elected to the office of Justice of the Peace in Ward Four, which office he held at the time of his death. During the past 17 years Judge Armstong has married 1260 couples, the records for the marriage before that time being lost. He was one of the most highly respected citizens in the parish and served with much credit and distinction, having settled many indifferences between his fellowmen in his ward without having the parties brought to trial. Heis reelection to the office for so many terms served as a notice of the citizens appreciation for his everlasting service. He was born at Old Pisgah (Ward Nine), Sabine Parish, being the son of the late R. M. Armstrong and Mrs. Jane (Kennedy) Armstrong. The family later moved to the old Armstrong plantation about 9 miles north of Many on the Many-Marthaville highway, where W. H. Armstrong married Miss Alice Rachal on June 9, 1880, to which union there was born a large and interesting family. In 1906 Judge Armstrong and his family moved to Many to make their home. The deceased is survived by his widow and seven children. They are R. R. Armstrong, of Thompsons, Texas, Mrs. John D. German, Many; W. H. Armstrong, Jr., Monroe; Mrs. L. B. Shadoin, Sour Lake, Texas; Mrs. C. R. Laird, Many; Amos L. Armstrong, Shreveport; C. E. Armstrong, Kilgore, Texas; eleven grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. L. M. DeBose of Many.
