Armstrong 9 Nov 1934 - As he saddled his horse to go to the bedside of a patient, Dr. R. L. Armstrong, age 77 years, veteran physician of this parish dropped dead early Sunday morning. Dr. Armstrong had been aroused from bed at 3 a.m. by Cullie Jacobs, a neighbor, who called his to his home. Jacobs and the aged physician went to the barnyard where Dr. Armstong was saddling his horse. After he fell Jacobs rushed to the house and called Dr. Ralph Armstrong, Lewisville, Ark., a son of the aged man. He found that his father was dead. Dr. Armstrong apparently had been in the best of health and kept up active practice. He was a great fox hunter. Dr. Armstrong was noted for his charitable disposition and was a great friend of the poor, whom he assisted in many ways. He practiced medicine in Sabine Parish for 52 years. Funeral services were held at 11 o'clock Monday morning at the residence in Pleasant Hill. The ceremony was conducted by Rev. Howard Pfost of Pleasant Hill and the Rev. J. B. Williams of Many. Interment was in the Pleasant Hill cemetery. Pallbearers were P. M. Gaddis, W. R. Ross, S. C. Bridges, Jeff Davis, L. G. Evans and S. P. Tarbox. Surviving are a son, Dr. Ralph Armstrong; three daughters, Mrs. Jeff Davis of Minden, Mrs. L. G. Evans and Mrs. S. P. Tarbox, both of Pleasant Hill, and a number of grandchildren.
