  Mr. Lawson B. Arrington, 86, of Shreveport, died at Highland
Hospital of Shreveport, on Jan. 16, 1996, after a brief illness.
Funeral services began at 11 a.m., Jan. 18, at Osborn Funeral
Home Chapel of Shreveport. Officiating was Dr. Mack Brister,
assisted by Dr. Scott Tatum, and Rev. Norman Sutton of Broadmoor
Baptist Church. Interment followed at Hill Crest Memorial Park.

  Mr. Arrington was born June 25, 1909, in the home that his
maternal grandfather, John A. Taylor, built soon after he
migrated into Louisiana from Mississippi in 1880, and settled in
the Florien Community of Sabine Parish. His father, Gilbert
Berian Arrington, at the age of 14, moved with his parents into
Sabine Parish in 1895.

  Mr. Arrington was educated at the Florien High School, where he
excelled in basketball, and was awarded a working scholarship at
the Louisiana State Normal College at Natchitoches. He graduated
from the university in the Spring Class of 1935, with a
Bachelor's Degree in Business Education, and Business
Administration. During his senior year there, he taught
accounting both semesters, and earned a Teachers Certificate
without having to perform the required practice teaching in a
high school.

  Following his graduation from Louisiana State Normal, he served
as teacher of commercial subjects in Zwolle High School from
Sept. 1935 until Jan. 28, 1938, at which time he was selected to
serve in the Sabine Parish School Board office, as the Accountant
and Office Manager. This significant position gave experiences
and opportunities for vocational advancement.

  After returning from the military, Mr. Arrington returned to his
career with the School System in August 1947, and in 1949, began
serving with the Caddo Parish School System. He later retired as
director of finance, after 18 years with the School Board. He
retired a second time in 1972, this time as chief accountant at
Centenary College.

  On Dec. 18, 1995, Lawson Brown Arrington, with his wife, Eugenia
Wyche Arrington, celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary.

  Mr. Arrington was preceded in death by his father and mother,
Gilbert B. and Annie Nancy Taylor Arrington; sister, Pauline A.
Coburn; and two brothers, John Freeman, and Joe D. Arrington. He
is survived by his wife Eugenia Wyche Arrington; five sisters,
Olive A. Coburn of Houston, Anabell A. Jordan of Florien,
Margaret A. Hughes of Leesville, Vergia A. Pardee of Jasper,
Texas, and Joan A. Perry of Leesville; and one brother, Wallace
R. Arrington Sr. of Florien.

  Pallbearers were Donnie Jordan, Rodney Jordan, Wallace R.
Arrington Jr., Gary Wyche, Paxton Moreland, Joe Bonds, Hilton
Coburn, Dean Coburn, Larry R. Arrington, and Roger Clements.

  Honorary pallbearers were members of the Progressive Sunday
School Class at Broadmoor Baptist Church, and Ushers of Broadmoor
Church, Dr. Daniel Moller, Dr. Dean Griffen, Dr. James Smith, O.
L. Jordan, Earnest West, and Ted Griffen.

  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made
to the Baptist Children's Home or Broadmoor Baptist Church
Building Fund.
