Jenkins 17 Apr 1942 - Funeral rites for Geo. W. Jenkins, age 62 years, were held last Friday at 11 o'clock at Shamrock, interment Shamrock cemetery, Dennis-Green funeral home in charge. Surviving are wife, Anna Jenkins, eleven children, six sons, Wesley, W. W., R. J., Willis, George and Luther, four daughters, Mrs. Emma Wethers, Mrs. Sadie Broadway, Mrs. Luther Walker and Mrs. Gertie Jenkins. W. G. Bailey officiating, Dennis-Green funeral home in charge. Surviving are five children, three sons, J. D., I. M., and E. C. of Many; two daughters, Mrs. J. R. Peterson 17 Apr 1942 - Last rites for Mrs. W. F. Peterson, age 83 years, were held last Friday at 3 p.m. at the Zwolle Baptist church, Rev. Joe Flanakin, pastor, officiating, assisted by Rev. J. P. Fortenberry of Fisher and Rev. Al Brown of Zwolle. Interment was in Zwolle cemetery, Dennis-Green funeral home in charge. Surviving are five sons, D. F., H. J., of Zwolle, M. A. and W. F., Jr., of Many and John L., Natchitoches; two daughters, Mrs. W. M. Muse, Fisher, and Mrs. H. E. Ferguson, Shreveport; seventeen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. J. D. McClemy, Tenaha, Texas, and Mrs. Julia E. Russ, Wilmington, N. C.; two brothers, Johnie Corbett, Wilmington, N. C., and William Corbett, Turkey, N. C., and many friends. Funeral services were held from Mt. Carmel Baptist church last Wednesday at three p.m., Rev. H. T. Young officiating, Dennis-Green funeral home of Many in charge of arrangements. ***************************************************************** Obituaries: Charlie Patrick Sistrunk, Sabine Parish S-236 Source: Sabine Index, Many, La., Apr 17, 1942 Submitted by: Tammy Larche-Smith tammy@cp-tel.net The Sabine Index - Charlie Patrick Sistrunk 17 Apr 1942 - Charlie Patrick Sistrunk, 18-year-old son of D. V. Sistrunk of Mitchell, perished in an enemy submarine attack on April 6, 1942, which resulted in the sinking of the S. S. Oklahoma in the Atlantic ocean, it was announced this week. The deceased was a graduate of Oak Grove high school in Sabine parish of the class of 1941 and at the time of his death was employed by The Texas company in the maritime service attached to the S. S. Oklahoma. He is survived by his father, D. V. Sistrunk, school board member of ward ten Sabine parish, three brothers, Walker and D. Sistrunk of Port Arthur, Texas, and Corp. Allen Sistrunk of the U. S. Army; four sisters, Mrs. J. C. McCollough of Mitchell, Mrs. E. L. Craig of LaFitte, Miss, Nonie Sistrunk of North Louisiana sanitarium of Shreveport, and Mrs. Joe Sanders of Many. *****************************************************************
