Emanus 23 Apr 1948 - Steve L. Emanus, 59, passed away at the veterans hospital in Alexandria. Funeral services were at St. Joseph's Catholic church, Thursday of last week at 3 p.m. conducted by Rev. Father Robert Fried, pastor. Interment followed under direction of Massingill funeral home. Surviving relatives include: wife, Mrs. Nellie Emanus, Zwolle; sons, Arthur of Goldonna, S. L. Jr., Calvin D. and Alvin, all of Zwolle; daughter Miss Beatrice Emanus, Zwolle; brothers J. C. Emanus, Mansfield, and P. R. Emanus, Zwolle. A son, Sgt. J. W. Nolan Etheridge, 21, were conducted 3 p.m. last Saturday at Sharbeno Chapel near Zwolle by Rev. Will Graham. Interment followed under direction of Massingill funeral home. Surviving relatives include: brothers, Napoleon and Vance Etheridge, both of Zwolle; sisters, Madames Vina Procell, Claudie Ezernack and Lora Martinez, all of Zwolle, and Mrs. Drucie Huffpair, New Orleans. Pvt. Etheridge was a member of the Third infantry regiment; he was wounded and died from action while serving in the U. S. army ground forces and died in a hospital in France. On Dec. 9, 1884 she was married to A. J. Burkett. To this union were born eleven children, four boys and seven girls, of which one boy and six girls still live: Tony Burkett, Converse, Mrs. C. B. Magee, Mrs. E. A. Hubier, Sr., Mrs. M. J. Paul, Converse, Mrs. G. H. Hargis, Shreveport, Mrs. B. E. May, Natchitoches and Mrs. Melton Pickett, Bastrop. Besides these she is survived by her husband, nineteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Burkett have been living in Converse continuously since 1908. Mrs. Lily is survived by her husband, Douglas Lily; a small daughter, Louise; her father and step-mother, Mr. and Mrs. G. C. Taylor, Mitchell; a half-sister, Mamie Taylor, Mitchell; a sister, Mrs. Henry Fox, Mitchell, a brother, Joel lee Taylor, Mansfield. Besides these, her immediate family, she leaves dozens of relatives and in laws and a host of friends. Rev. Jerry Schmucker, Converse, and Rev. Medford Lord, Mansfield, conducted the services. Elosie bore three years illness with Christian courage and fortitude.
