Self, 73, a friend to humanity, died at his home in Hornbeck Sunday, Aug. 16, at 6:45 after a long illness. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at four o'clock from the Assembly of God church of Hornbeck with the Rev. George H. Harrison officiating. He was buried in the Oak Grove cemetery, about two miles east of Hornbeck. The Dennis Funeral home directed the services. Dr. Self practiced medicine in Hornbeck when he was a young doctor. He was a doctor in the army during World War I and was stationed at San Antonio, Texas, for a time. He was mill doctor at Barham, one and a half miles south of Hornbeck, for a long time. His last mill practice was at Gandy before the mill company cut out there. He was a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ and no doubt did much for his Lord as he went about his daily duties, besides preaching at time, and also singing unto the Lord. Dr. Self is survived by his widow, Mrs. Nancy Jane Self; six sons, Edgar, Herman, Thomas, C. C., Jr., Homer and Hary Self, all of Hornbeck; four daughters, Mrs. Nina Conerly of Beaumont, Texas; Mrs. Genie Jan of Lake Charles, Mrs. Marie Wilson of Milam, Texas, and Mrs. Beulah Greer of Leesville; one sister, Mrs. Ella Britt, Amhurst, Texas. And there are a great host of friends and relatives in many states left to mourn his death. Many, many people have been to rejoice for his having come their way while he lived and worked here on earth. *****************************************************************
