The Sabine Index - Christpher Columbus Beason

  9 Aug 1946 - Last rites for Christpher Columbus Beason, age
76, were conducted at Fort Jesup Baptist church by Rev. M. B.
Atkins, pastor, at 2 p.m. Sunday. Interment was in Fort Jesup
cemetery, Massingill funeral home directing.

  Deceased is survived by son, Mack of Many, Joe of New Orleans
and J. C. of Fort Jesup; daughters, Mrs. Ella Colston, Hugh
Springs, Texas, Mrs. Lusia Remedies, Many, Mrs. Edna Neal,
Hornbeck; brother, J. M. Beason, Natchitoches.

  9 Aug 1946 - Double funeral services were held Friday, Aug.
2, 11 a.m. at Toro Baptist church for Robert and Troy Brumfield,
ages 10 and 12 respectively, who were drowned in the Nueces river
at Robstown, Texas, July 20.

  Rev. Herny Chance, pastor Bible Baptist church, Hornbeck,
officiated, Massingill funeral home directing.

  Surviving are: their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Brumfield,
sister, Alice Lefay Brumfield, all of Robstown, Texas,
grandfather, W. A. Powell of Florien.

The Sabine Index - George Z. Corley

  30 Aug 1946 - George Z. Corley, age 70, passed away at his
home near Florien. Funeral rites were conducted at Toro church 10
a.m. Saturday by Rev. W. G. Bailey, assisted by Rev. V. K.
Fletcher. Interment was in Toro cemetery under direction
Massingill funeral home.

  Pallbearers were: Lee Jordan, Homer Pilcher, Herman Corley,
Willie Corley, Milton Corley and Mr. Chance.

  Surviving are: wife, Mrs. Corley of Florien;
daughters, Mrs. Lee Jordan, Mrs. Homer Pilcher, Mrs. Eva Chance,
Miss Darline Corley, all of Florien; sons, Otto, Herman and
Willie Corley all of Florien.

  Mr. Corley was a progressive citizen, having served
several years as school board member and president of the parish
school board.

The Sabine Index - John Theodore Davis

  9 Aug 1946 - John Theodore Davis, age 93, id at the home of
his nephew W. S. Davis in Many 3:30 p.m. Saturday after a long
illness. Funeral services were conducted at St. John's Catholic
church 9 a.m. Monday by Rev. Father J. A. Benoit with interment
in the Catholic cemetery under direction Massingill funeral home.

  Pallbearers were Harold and Hubert Andries, James Davis, James
Corbitt, Norman Buvens and Jack Hubley, all great nephews.

  Surviving are: sister, Mrs. Mary Armstrong, Many;
nieces and nephews as follows; Mrs. Clara Davis, Mrs. Cecil
Andries, Emmett H. Armstrong, W. S. Davis, Mrs. L. F. Locke, Mrs.
George D. Cobbs, Mrs. C. J. Hubley and Mrs. F. N. Buvens, all of
Many, R. C. and J. G. Davis, and Mrs. H. H. Delhomme, all of Port
Neches, Texas.

  Mr. Davis in his younger life was an active farmer,
lumber man and other industries. He owned at the time of his
death valuable farming and timber land adjoining the city of
Many.

The Sabine Index - Tommy Wayne Knippers

  30 Aug 1946 - Funeral rites for Tommy Wayne Knippers, age two
months, who died at Fraser sanitarium after a brief illness, were
held at Cedar Grove church near Robeline 3 p.m. Saturday by the
Rev. Dowden. Interment was at Cedar Grove cemetery under
direction Massingill funeral home.

  Surviving are: parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Knippers, Robeline;
sisters, Nelda Ray and Shirley Fay Knippers, both of Robeline.

The Sabine Index - Mrs. Media Lafitte

  30 Aug 1946 - Mrs. Media Lafitte, age 64, who died at her
home in Many after a long illness, was laid to rest in Fenders
cemetery near Many Thursday. Funeral services were conducted at
First Baptist church 4 p.m. by the pastor, Rev. J. C. Clement.

  Massingill funeral home directed the last rites.

  Mrs. Lafitte is survived by ;sons, E. W., Daisetta,
Texas, Dewitt of Many, R. H. of Ruston, Albert of Gandy, Joe B.
of Trenton, N. Y. Glenwood of Ferriday; daughters, Mrs. J. C.
Morris, Mrs. Buck Miller and Miss Mamie Fern Lafitte, all of
Many; three sisters, four brothers and five grandchildren.

  16 Aug 1946 - Marshall B. Russell, age 68, prominent farmer
of Bayou Scie community, passed away at Allen sanitarium,
Converse, Friday night. Funeral services were held at Bayou Scie
4:p.m. Saturday, Rev. T. J. Holliday officiating. Interment was
in Bayou Scie cemetery, Massingill funeral home in charge.

  Pallbearers were: Harvey Skinner, T.M. Phillips, M. E. Wright,
Dewey Murphy, Risdon McGee and L. Russell.

  Surviving are: widow, Mrs. Ellie Russell of Bayou
Scie; daughters, Mrs. J. H. Strong and Miss Beulah Russell, both
of Zwolle, Mrs. Marvin Carter, Belmont; sons, Blumer Russell,
Belmont, Herald Russell, Shreveport, Hoyt Russell, Delhi, Tilmon
