The Sabine Index - Alan Dyke Brown 
  
  20 Aug 1948 - Funeral rites for Alan Dyke Brown, one-year-old, 
who died at a Shreveport hospital, were held at Spring Ridge, 
near Pleasant Hill, at 4 p.m. Monday, by Rev. Dewitt Rains, 
assisted by Rev. J. I. Funderburk. Interment followed under 
direction Massingill funeral home. 
  
  Surviving relatives include parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. D. Brown, 
brother and sister, Michael and Patricia Brown, of Marthaville, 
grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Brown of Pleasant Hill, Mr. and 
Mrs. Perry Green of Marthaville.

  The Sabine Index - D. W. Earls 
    
    27 Aug 1948 - Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday 
  for D. W. Earls, age 78, with rites at the graveside in Fenders 
  cemetery by Rev. Crocker of Pineland, Texas. Interment followed 
  under direction Massingill funeral home. 
    
    Mr. Earls, a life-long resident of Sabine parish, passed away 
  suddenly at his home near Fisher. He is survived by his widow, 
  Mrs. Jodie Earls of Fisher.

  The Sabine Index - Samuel Reginald Fletcher 
    
    27 Aug 1948 - Samuel Reginald Fletcher age three months, who 
  died in a Houston, Texas hospital, was laid to rest last Friday. 
  Final rites were conducted by Rev. Jack Webb at 2 p.m. at the 
  Massingill funeral home chapel with interment following under 
  direction of Massingill. 
    
    Surviving relatives include: parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Fletcher 
  and a brother, all of Houston, Texas; grandmother, Mrs. J. L. 
  Ramsey of Mt. Zion community.

  The Sabine Index - Martha McComic 
    
    20 Aug 1948 - Mrs. Martha McComic, age 66, passed away at her 
  home in Hemphill, Texas. Last rites were conducted at the 
  Hemphill Methodist church at 10 a.m. Monday by Rev. Houston 
  Mitchell of Hornbeck. Interment was under directions Massingill 
  funeral home. 
    
    Surviving relatives include: sons, G. W. McComic of Fisher, C. 
  C. McComic of Shreveport; daughters, Mrs. Lizzie Farris, Many, 
  Rt. 1, Mrs. Alice Paul and Mrs. Minnie Lee, both of Hornbeck, 
  Mrs. Clara Pilcher, Many Rt. 1, Mrs. Jewell Bass, Hemphill, 
  Texas, brother, Dolph Randolph, Many and 14 grandchildren.

  The Sabine Index - Charles Raymond Miller 
    
    27 Aug 1948 - Final burial of S/Sgt. Charles Raymond Miller, 24, 
  was at Beulah 10 a.m. Tuesday. Last rites were conducted by Rev. 
  Charles S. Miers, pastor First Baptist church, Many. Interment 
  followed under direction of Massingill funeral home. 
    
    Military honors at the grave were in charge of members of 
  Veterans of Foreign Wars. 
    
    Sgt. Miller was killed on the island of Luzon in the Philippines 
  Jan. 13, 1945. Surviving relatives include: parents, Mr. and Mrs. 
  Dan Miller, Many, Rt. 1; brothers, Force, James and Billy Ray of 
  Many, Herbert of Jasper, Texas; sisters, Mrs. Ruby Anthony and 
  Miss Gail Miller, both of Many; grandfather, William Murphey.
