P. J. O'Dwyer, pastor, St. Joseph's Catholic church, Mansfield, officiating. Burial was in Highland cemetery, Mansfield. He is survived by his widow, and two sons, Earl Cook, Monroe, and D. J. Cook, Jr., Shreveport, Mr. Cook died 9:30 a.m. Monday after an illness of several days. Mr. Cook had been a resident of Mansfield for 32 years. He had been sanitarium for the department of health since 1940. His duties covered both DeSoto and Sabine parishes, working out of the local Sabine parish health unit. During the 25 years he lived in Zwolle he was an active member of the First Baptist church, having served as superintendent of the Sunday school for 20 years, and being the senior deacon. He was clerk of the Sabine Baptist association and active in all phases of church work. He was a charter member and past president of Zwolle Lions club. Previous to his present term he served eight years as mayor of Zwolle. Mayor Halbert was a descendent of pioneer settlers of east Texas, having been reared at Milam where his family had lived for over 100 years. Funeral services were held at the First Baptist church, Zwolle, at 4 p.m. Thursday by Rev. J. D. Wagnon, assisted by Rev. Basil Halbert of Houston, Texas, and Rev. Joe Flanagan of Shreveport. Interment was in the Halbert family cemetery, with Masonic service at the graveside. Phillips 17 Aug 1951 - A Pleasant Hill man was killed Monday in an accident at the Reynolds Lumber mill at Pleasant Hill. A. L. Phillips, 60, an employee of the miss, was struck by a piece of flying lumber on the chest at 9 a.m. He died almost instantly. Dr. H. M. Prothro of Pleasant Hill performed an autopsy which revealed that the blow had crushed Mr. Phillip's heart. Funeral rites were held at the Spring Ridge Baptist church. Burial was in the Spring Ridge cemetery under the direction of the Drewett funeral home of Mansfield. Surviving are his widow; four daughters, Mrs. S. D. Osborne, of New London, Texas, Mrs. H.
