All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** The Sabine Index - Mrs. Troy McCormick 3 Aug 1956 - Funeral services for Mrs. Troy McCormick, 38, of Fisher who was accidentally shot to death late Friday as she prepared dinner in the home of a relative, was held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Fisher Baptist church. Burial was in the Prospect cemetery near Florien. Mrs. McCormick, who died as two of her three children looked on, was fatally wounded when her nephew, Robert Joe Bush, 15, accidently fired a .32 calibre bullet through her chest. Mrs. McCormick and her children were visiting in the Bush home at the time of the accident. The children looked on horrified, are Raiford, 15, and Cora Elizabeth, 10. Mrs. W. O. Bush, Sr., mother of the victim, was also a witness. Sheriff T. M. Phillips said the accident occurred when young Bush and his cousin, Raiford, took, the pistol from a bedroom closet and had been playing with it until their grandmother sternly warned them to put it up. Phillips said young Bush, followed by the victims son, went into the kitchen and suddenly a shot rang out. Mrs. McCormick screamed and fell to the floor. The group had just returned from visiting a relative in the Sabine clinic. Coroner Dr. W. H. Murdock ruled the slaying accidental. Mrs. McCormick is also survived by a son, Tommy Wayne, 12; two brothers, W. O. Bush of Many, R. C. Ryan 3 Aug 1956 - Funeral services for L. J. Ryan, 63, of Gladewater, was held at the Many United Pentecostal church at 2 p.m. Sunday with Rev. Watson Miller of Stamford, Tex., who was a brother of retired postmaster, J. Wiley Miller of Many, died Saturday, Aug. 4. Older residents of Many will remember that Watson Miller was born Oct. 26, 1877, in Sabine Parish. He grew up and worked here before going to West Texas. He married there and then returned here for a few years, living in the home now occupied by Postmaster Charles Williams. Mr. Watson Miller and his family later moved to Stamford, Tex. Mr. Miller leaves behind a host of friends; his wife; his brother; a large family of children and grandchildren. He was an active Christian until he suffered a stroke in 1952.
