All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Dr. Daniel Materson Bass Jr. Funeral services for Dr. Daniel Materson Bass Jr., 67, will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, on Thursday, September 8, at 1 p.m. Bishop Stan Hayes, and Brother Michael Slay officiated. Interment was at Florien Cemetery, under the direction of Warren Meadows Funeral Home, and with military graveside services conducted by the Sabine Chapter #21 Disabled American Veterans. Dr. Bass passed away on Sunday, Sept. 4, 1994, at Saint Patrick Hospital in Lake Charles. Dr. Bass was the son of Daniel M. Bass Sr. and the late Katherine Gladys Lee Bass. He was born and raised in Westlake, and graduated from Westlake High School. Dr. Bass was head of the Petroleum Engineering Department of Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado, for 21 years. Upon his retirement in 1986, he moved to Florien, to pursue his interest in cattle ranching, and assist his daughter in their partnership, raising registered Tennessee Walking Horses. He also continued his petroleum consulting business from his home in Florien. Survivors are his widow, Dorothy Bass of Florien; two sons, Daniel Stephens Bass of Pittsburgh, Pa., and John Gregory Bass of Florien; three daughters, Brenda Joyce Wierholt of Kirkland, Wash., Nita Diane Evans of Florien, and Annette Victoria Torrey of North Scituate, R. I.; his father, Daniel M. Bass of Florien; one sister, Katherine Blume of Many; and one brother, Kenneth R. Bass of Channelview, Tex.; fifteen grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Ivar Weirholt, Jim Evans, John Bass, Stephen Bass, Les Torrey, and Steven Bass. Dr. Bass was preceded in death by an infant brother, Ray Leonard Bass.
