All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Grover Cleveland Boswell, Jr. Grover Cleveland Boswell Jr. was born August 4, 1925, in Many, to Grover C. Sr. and Sarah Alieze Beasley Boswell. The Boswells were descendants of one of the pioneer families of this area, Gabriel Sims Boswell and Mollie Speights Boswell, as well as Thadius Beasley and Parilee Alto Whatley Beasley of the Kisatchie area near Lotus. Grover was one of 10 children, Agnes Johnson of Lakeland, Fla., Shawnee Osborn of Longville, Lois Rigdon (deceased), Lincoln Palmer (deceased), Voyght Vanderbelt of Sanoma, Calif., Rural J. (deceased), Truet of Covington, J. Kearney of Lakeside, Calif., and J. Kelly (deceased). Grover attended elementary, and high school in Many. On Dec. 28, 1941, with the consent of his mother, and with statements notarized, Grover entered the U.S. Marine Corps. After completing three months of basic training in San Diego, he was assigned to Marine Air Group 21. His 17th birthday was celebrated while serving in Hawaii. Other places of duty included Guadalcanal in the Pacific Solomon Islands, New Georgia, Russell Islands, Marshall Islands, and Expereta Santos. He was awarded campaign ribbons and stars for the New Georgia and Guadalcanal campaigns. After returning to the States, he served in Newport, Arkansas, where he was Crew Chief Training Officer. Grover was discharged from the service, Jan. 16, 1946. He attended Northwestern State College, where he majored in Industrial Arts. After college, Grover worked for a number of years, for the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers, and was a carpenter before retiring. Grover expired September 19, of a massive heart attack, while in the V.A. Hospital in Pineville. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Faye Walkner Boswell; and four children, Niona Lynn Boswell Moon Whiddon and her husband David of Merryville, Sheila Ann Boswell Nickel and her husband James of Sweetlake, James Mildon Boswell and his wife Robin Lynn Barrow Boswell of Longville, and Grover Cleveland Boswell III (G.C.) and his wife Sandra Trahan Boswell of Alexandria. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Emily Faye Cole and husband Tim of Simsborough, William Archer Moon of Bossier City, Amanda Nicole Whiddon of Merryville, Nena Ann, and Ellen Katrine Nickel of Lake Charles, and Kristen Alieze, and Nathan Ryan Boswell of Longville; one great grandchild, Britney Alexander Cole of Simsborough, as well as several nieces, nephews; and many, many friends and fishing buddies.
