Behan Memorial services were conducted for Thomas W. Behan of Hornbeck, Thursday, Feb. 26, at 2 p.m., in the Oak Grove Baptist Church of Hornbeck. Burial followed in the Oak Grove Cemetery, under the direction of the Warren Meadows Funeral Home. Mr. Behan died at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 24, in a Shreveport Hospital, following a short illness. He was 90. Survivors include two sons, Glen Behan, and Gerald Behan, both of Hornbeck; one daughter, Rutha Mae Riley of Orange, Tex.; one brother, John Behan of Robeline; five half sisters, Mrs. Nora Dowden, and Mrs. Florence Sisson, both of Natchitoches, Mrs. Lillie Garrett of Baytown, Tex., Mrs. Rosalie Johnson of Hot Springs, Ark., and Mrs. Jewel Geter of Monroe; nine grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. His 90 years didn't slow him down. He'd get up every morning, and go out in the garden and plow all day. To top it off he'd plow with his old fashioned push plow. One could always depend on him raising a big garden every year. Mr. Behan was well known and loved in the community. He was born on Oct. 6, 1890, and married Cora Bell McDaniels as a young man. Four children were born to their union. He lost his wife at a young age, and with the help of this mother-in-law, raised his family. His son, Murlin was killed in a shooting accident. A hard life seemed to be the only thing Mr. Behan knew, but through it all, he never gave up. He always knew he could find help in God. "Uncle Tom", as he was known, was a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church. One church member recalled, "Whenever he wasn't in his seat, we knew he was sick or something."
