All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** John Reuel Boone (Photo) A pioneer Sabine citizen, John Reuel Boon, 72, was claimed by death Wednesday night, Feb. 28, at 9:25, after a lengthy bout with cancer. Funeral services were held Friday, at 2 p.m., in the Many First Baptist, with Rev. Perry Lassiter, and the Rev. Billy White officiating. Burial was in the Many Cemetery, under the direction of Warren Meadows Funeral Home. Survivors include his wife; a son, William Reuel Boone of Many; three sisters, Mrs. Burton Weaver of Flora, Mrs. Casimar D. Moss of Winnfield, and Mrs. Mike Pearson of Many; and several nieces and nephews. Serving as pallbearers were Buddy Dees, Glen Phares, Eustace Edwards, Lee Jordan, Hubert Andries, Benny McNeely, George Cook, and Jack Jordan. Honorary pallbearers were T. E. Nichols, Judge John S. Pickett Sr., C. A. Hays, T. M. Phillips, Bob Lowrey, Judge W. H. Ponder, members of the Sabine and DeSoto Bar Associations, members of the Board of Directors of the Sabine State Bank and Trust Co., and officials and employees in the Courthouse. Mr. Boone was born at Mt. Lebanon, Oct. 11, 1900, to Judge and Mrs. John H. Boone. When he was one year old, the family moved to Many, where his father became Judge. Mr. Boone was graduated from Many High School, received the BA degree from Louisiana College in Pineville, and his law degree from Louisiana State University, and was admitted to the Louisiana State Bar shortly thereafter. He opened a law office in Many, where he successfully passed through the testing period of a young practitioner. He continued his law practice until he was elected District Attorney in 1947, a post he held until his death. Only last year, he was elected to that post for another six year term. Mr. Boone was married to the former Elaine Pearce, a native of Sabine. He was a member of the American Bar Association, Sabine Bar Association, Louisiana Bar Association, National District Attorneys Association, and Many-Sabine Parish Chamber of Commerce.
