All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** The Sabine Index - Mrs. Amanda Tompkins Bray 11 Dec 1980 - Funeral services for Mrs. Amanda Tompkins Bray, widow of James Reece Bray, were held at the First Baptist Church of Many on Wednesday, Dec. 10 at 2 p.m. Officiating were Dr. Rod Smith, former pastor, and Brother Joe Wallace, Minister of Music and Youth of the First Baptist Church. Burial was in the Many Cemetery under the direction of the Warren Meadows Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Jimmy Bray, Brian Bray, Vernice Wright, Max Teasley, E. C. McCormic, Hoyt Tompkins, Stanley Tompkins and Ray Williams. Mrs. Bray died at Fraser Hospital North at 9:04 a.m. Monday, Dec. 8 following an extended illness. Survivors include one son, Dr. Hollis Bray of Many; two grandsons, James Paul Bray and Brian Reece Bray, both of Many; two brothers, Horace Tompkins of Many and John H. Tompkins of Shreveport, a sister Ethel W. Ball of Many; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Bray was born on June 15, 1902, to Archie Smith Tompkins and Alvie Viola Leach Tompkins. She was one of ten children, and was raised on a farm in Florien. She was educated in Florien schools. She married Reece Bray on June 5, 1927 and assisted him in various professions throughout their lives.
