David Martin Bray Jr.

  Funeral services for David Martin Bray Jr., 79, were held
Tuesday, Oct. 22, 1996, at 2 p.m., at Alford Heights Baptist
Church. Officiating was Rev. Jeff Hoffman, assisted by Rev. Roy
Dowden, and Rev. Charles Luke. Interment was at Aimwell Cemetery
near his childhood home, under the direction of Warren Meadows
Funeral Home.

  Mr. Bray passed away Friday, Oct. 18, at Schumpert Medical
Center. He was born Oct. 7, 1917, in Zwolle, and attended
Alliance High School, Louisiana State University, and
Northwestern State University. He moved to Many at the end of
World War II, after serving four years as pilot, and instructor
in the U. S. Army Air Force, honorably discharged, with the rank
of Captain.

  For over 30 years, he served the farmers of Sabine Parish, as
the office manager of the ASCS "...working with the people of my
choice." David starter the first herd of registered Santa
Gertrudis cattle in this area, and he loved the land and cattle,
often saying his favorite moments were seeing "...red cows on
green grass."

  He is survived by his wife, Melba Pennington Bray of Many;
daughter, Bonnie Bray of Baton Rouge; son, David M. Bray III,
M.D.; daughter-in-law, Susan Vickery Bray; grandson, Ryan Bray;
and granddaughter, Courtney Bray, all of Bainbridge Island,
Wash.; his mother, Sudie Bray of Many; his brother, Nathan Bray
of Lake Charles; and his sister, Lois Monk of Leesville, and
Helen Banke of Ft. Worth, Tex.

  Pallbearers were Charlie Alford, Norman Booker Jr., Jimmy Bray,
Butch Manasco, Douglas Patrick, DeWayne Martin, Donald Scaife,
and Allen Small.

  David Carnline sang David's favorite hymn, "I Don't Know About
Tomorrow".

  The family suggest memorials may be made to Alford Heights
Baptist Church, 235 Byles St., Many, La., or the American Cancer
Society.
