Brooks, beloved citizen and veteran railroad man, died at the family home in Many Sunday 12 p.m., after a brief illness. Mr. Brooks was 86 years of age, having been in the railroad work all his life, worked for the K.S.C. in seveal capacities, being roadmaster at one time. Mr. Brooks retired from the service several years past. He also served on the city council of Many from July 18, 1927 to July 2, 1929. The council at that time was somposed of E. C. Dillon; E. W. Brooks, street commisioner; I. L. Pace, J. H. McNeely, C. J. Hubley, and J. M. Abington, mayor. Mr. Brooks refused to let his mane be placed on the ticket for re-election on account of his age. At the last meeting the council voted him a bonus of $100.00 for his faithful service during the two years. The only time in the history of Many this has ever been done to a member of the Board of Alderman. Funeral service was held at the Methodist church Tuesday at ten o'clock with Rev. W. T. Gray, pastor of the Methodist church, and Rev. E. C. Harris, pastor of Calvary Baptist church, conducting the services. Interment was in the Many cemetery with the Masons in charge. Active pallbearers were J. B. Vandegaer, J. Wiley Miller, R. B. Jackson, O. E. Williams, W. E. Peterson and Van Vines. Mr. Brooks is survived by his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Percy Dillon of Many, and Mrs. Charles Smuck of Memphis, Tenn.; one sister, Miss Blanche Brooks of Rochester, Minn.
