All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Elvin Perry Byers Elvin Perry Byers, 60, of Kansas City, Mo., died at 9:30 a.m., Monday, March 13, in Willis-Knighton Memorial Hospital, after a short illness. A native of Pelican, Mr. Byers was president of Reeves Door Co., a veteran of World War II, and the Korean Conflict, and was a retired Air Force Reserve Captain. Mr. Byers was also a retired 31-year employee of the Social Security Administration. A member of Hillside Christian church, Mr. Byers attended Missouri Western State College, and the University of Missouri Western State College, and the University of Missouri School of Law in Kansas City. He was a member of the American Legion there, and was a past president of the Gladstone Missouri Optimist Club. Funeral services were at 1 p.m., Wednesday, in Summer Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. Billy Crosby, pastor, officiating. Burial was in the Pelican Cemetery in Pelican, under direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home's Southside Chapel. Survivors include his widow, Jeanette Rankin Byers; his mother, Vermel Williams Byers of Shreveport; one daughter, Mary Byers Teschner of Shreveport; three sisters, Blanche Jergenson, Dorothy Wilson, both of Shreveport, and Ruthe Taylor of Kingsberg, Calif.; four brothers, Carl F. Byers of Zwolle, Fred E. Byers, Homer O. Byers, and Berton E. Byers, all of Shreveport; and two grandsons.
