Bruce, Sr., were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, September 8, in the Magnolia Missionary Baptist Church of Coushatta. The Rev. Donnie Cox, and Phil Evans officiated. Presenting the obituary during the service was Dale Morvan. Burial with full military honors, were in Springfield Cemetery, Coushatta. Services were under the direction of Blanchard-St. Denis of Natchitoches. Bruce, 72, of Marthaville, died at 3 a.m., Thursday, in the Senior Citizen Nursing Home, Coushatta. He was a retired mess steward with the Army, a veteran of World War II, and a native of Marshall, Texas. Survivors include his wife, Iwilla C. Bruce of Marthaville; five sons, James R. Bruce, Jr., and David Marcus Bruce, both of Coushatta, Donald Wayne Bruce of Leesville, Bobby Glenn Bruce of St. Petersburg, Florida, and Richard M. Bruce of Robeline; three daughters, Diane Kilgore of Marthaville, Janice Morvan of Logansport, and Regina N. Prewitt of Natchitoches; 19 grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. Pallbearers were military servicemen.
