(Jude) Burkett, 71, of Converse, were held Wednesday, at 10:30 a.m., at the Fellowship Baptist Church in Oak Grove Community near Converse. Rev. C. R. Miller, and Rev. Ray Jenkins officiated. The burial was at the Oak Grove Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Drewett Funeral Home in Mansfield. He died Monday, August 16, at 10:30 a.m., at Pleasant Hill Hospital, after a lengthy illness. He was a retired oil well driller, and served 30 years on the Sabine Parish School Board, retiring in December 1972, due to bad health. He belonged to the Fellowship Baptist Church, and was on the Board of Deacons for more than 30 years. He was a native, and a lifelong resident of the Oak Grove Community near Converse. Survivors include his widow, M. Alton Burkett of Converse; and two daughters, Bessie L. Wood, and Shirley Stoker of Shreveport; one son, Julius M. Burkett of Nacogdoches, Tex.; eight grandchildren; and two brothers, John F. Burkett of Pollock, and N. L. Burkett of Bossier City.
