M. H. Burkhalter (Photo)

  Former Zwolle Mayor, M. H. Burkhalter, 80, died at his home in
Zwolle, Saturday.

  He served as mayor 10 1/2 years, from mid-1951 until 1962. He
retired in 1958, after 35 years with the Kansas City Southern
Railway. He moved to Zwolle in 1942, and served as agent for KCS
until his retirement. The above photo was taken in May 1958.

  Funeral services for Mr. Burkhalter were held Tuesday, at 10
a.m., in Zwolle United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Frank
Stage officiating. Burial was in Mitchell Cemetery, under the
direction of Warren Meadows Funeral Home. Masonic rites were
conducted at the graveside.

  Pallbearers were C. A. Tooke, Quinton Brandon, Raymond Walraven,
James Hayes, Vernon Mitchell, and Leroy Palmer Jr.

  Survivors include a son, Bob Burkhalter of Lakewood, Calif.; a
brother, Dan Burkhalter of Oakdale; and one grandchild.
