Services were held at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, on June 22, and burial was in Resthaven Gardens of Memory in Baton Rouge. Mrs. Bergin was a native of Many, graduating from Many High School, and she returned often from Baton Rouge to visit her family and many area friends. She is survived by her husband, James J. Bergin Sr.; a daughter, Patricia Rutherford Smith, College Station, Tex.; mother, Mrs. J. M. Abington, Many; three sisters, Mary Agnes Byrd, and Bobby Kratz, both of Many, and Edith Middleton, Baton Rouge; three grandchildren, Leah Smith Tyner, San Antonio, Tex., Scott, and Angela Smith, both of College Station, Tex.; a son-in-law, William B. Smith, College Station; seven step children, George A. Carson, Dallas, Tex., Rosemary Frederic, Lafayette, Sister Anne Bergin, and James J. Bergin Jr., both of New Orleans, Katherine Myer, and Michael Bergin, both of Baton Rouge, and Joseph Bergin, Atlanta, Ga. She was a member of First Methodist Church, Baton Rouge. Helen was preceded in death by her father, J. M. Abington of Many.
