Byrd Last rites for Richard D, Byrd, 24, of Many, were held Monday, at 10 a.m., in the First United Methodist Church. The Rev. John Koelemay, and the Rev. L. W. Taylor officiated. Burial was in Many Cemetery, under the direction of Warren Meadows Funeral Home. Mr. Byrd was killed near Florien at 1:10 a.m., Sunday, when the car he was driving missed a curve on Hwy. 171, and slammed into a tree. He had returned from military duty in Viet Nam only a month before the fatal wreck. Sgt. Joe Byles of the State Police, said the auto was apparently traveling at a high rate of speed when the accident occurred. Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Byrd Jr. of Many; four brothers, Dr. Charles Byrd of Miami, John, Francis, and Paul Byrd, all of Many; his paternal grandmother, Mrs. C. B. Byrd Sr. of Shreveport; and his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Abington of Many. Pallbearers were Stuart Bird, Cole Wagley, Louis Lowray, Bill Middleton, Norman Booker, Phillip Slay, Kim Smith, and Larry James.
