Byrd - May 19, 1988 Memorial services for Mr. T. J. Byrd, 72, of Shreveport were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 19, at Rose-Neath's Marshall Street Chapel. Dr. N. O. ? officiated. Mr. Byrd, a resident of Shreveport for 50 years, died Tuesday, May 17, 1988, at Nurse Care Nursing Home after a lengthy illness. He was born in Many, La. Mr. Byrd, the retired owner of Herndon-Davis Body Shop, served 43 months with the Army Infantry in World War II and participated in five major battles in the European theater, he was a member of Mangum United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Maxine Cooper Byrd, one daughter, Mrs. Cheryl Byrd Wellborn and three sisters, Mrs. Florence Byrd Reynolds, Mrs. May Byrd Horton and Mrs. Viola Byrd Boone of Shreveport; a brother, Julian Byrd of Many; two grandchildren, Jeffery Glenn Byrd and Bo Wellborn; and numerous nieces and nephews. At his request Mr. Byrd's remains were given to LSU Medical School in the hope that others might benefit. Finally requests in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions be made the Emphysema Association or the charity of the donors choice.
