All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Mrs. Sarah Williams Baird (Photo) A service to celebrate the life of Sarah Williams Baird was held Monday, Nov. 6, at 2 p.m., in Couch Chapel, at First Methodist Church of Shreveport. A visitation was hosted in the parlor, following the service. Mrs. Baird died Thursday, Nov. 2. She was 78. Mrs. Baird was born August 24, 1917, in Many. She attended Centenary College, and was an active member of Chi Omega Sorority. Her love for music, and natural ability at the piano, led to her participation in college activities, and later, as a volunteer pianist for the Deaf Oral School. A resident of Shreveport since her marriage in 1937, she devoted time and service to her church and other community organizations. She belonged to the Gleaners Class at First Methodist Church. The Shreveport Symphony, and the Junior League of Shreveport. She was a member of the Shreveport Country Club, the Shreveport Power Squadron, and the Cambridge Club. Mrs. Baird was preceded in death by her husband, John L. Baird; parents, Paralee and O. E. Williams; and brothers, Charles Williams, and Jack Williams. Survivors include her brother, O. E. Williams Jr. and his wife Marge of Many; a son, J. Sam Baird of Many; daughters, Ellen Kirkland and her husband Charles of Shreveport, Beth Ruple of Conway, Ark, and Jennifer Frazier and her husband John of Shreveport., She is also survived by her grandchildren, Charles Kirkland III, Kennedy Kirkland, Amy Kirkland, Lea Kirkland, Emily Kirkland, Ashley Kirkland, Colby Ruple, Adam Ruple, and Gabriel Wise. In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Baird's family requested that memorial gifts be made to the First Methodist Church, Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children, Hospice of Louisiana, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
