Mrs. Mary Paul "Nighting Gale" Byrd

  Mrs. Mary Paul Byrd "Nighting Gale", 62, died Jan. 20, 2002, at
her residence in Hornbeck. She was born in Vowells Mill, and had
lived all of her life in the Hornbeck/Vernon Parish area. She was
retired from the TMC Medical Clinic at Fort Polk, after 20 years
of service.

  Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Jan. 22, in the Hixson
Funeral Home Chapel, with interment following at Mt. Carmel
Cemetery in Florien. The Rev. Ted Cabra officiated.

  Survivors include two daughters, Karen Wallace of Zwolle, and
Kayla Slaydon of Leesville; one brother, Harold Paul of Lake
Charles; four grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

  Mrs. Byrd was preceded in death by her husband, Elton Byrd.
