Bridges, who was owner of the Pleasant Hill Pharmacy, first began work in the drug store for his uncle, when he was ten years old. He was educated in the public schools of Mitchell, Oak Grove, and Pleasant Hill, where he graduated in 1926. Following graduation, Bridges attended Simon School of Pharmacy in New Orleans, and became a registered pharmacist in 1927. On February 26, 1943, Bridges married the former Vories McCartney. Known to all as "Bus", he was an admired citizen of the Pleasant Hill community. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Pleasant Hill. He also claimed membership in the Masonic Lodge, the Royal Arch Lodge, the Sabine Shrine Club, the Ascension Commandery, and El Karubah Shrine of Shreveport, and the Pleasant Hill Lions Club. Professionally, Bridges belonged to the Louisiana Pharmaceutical Association, and the National Association of Retail Druggists. Bridges served on the Sabine Parish Housing Authority Board, and the Sabine Parish Draft Board for more than 20 years, serving as it's chairman for several years. He had also served as chairman of the draft board for several years. Bridges also served on the Sabine Parish Library Board. On November 16, 1972, Bridges was featured in the Sabine Index's Personality of the Week column. On sentence in the article described Bridges well. It read, "He has been known to administer aid and deliver medicine 20 miles when he thought it was necessary, and he has been known to fill prescriptions free of charge to the needy." Funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church of Pleasant Hill on Monday, August 4, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Vernon Stephenson officiating. Burial was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, under the direction of Drewett Funeral Home of Mansfield. Bridges is survived by his widow, Mrs. Vories Bridges of Pleasant Hill; two sons, James Lee Bridges of Bossier City, and Roy Bush Bridges of Houston, Texas; three sisters, Mrs. Ouida Strain, and Mrs. Pauline Roberson, both of Pleasant Hill, and Mrs. Floyd Randall of Baton Rouge; and two grandchildren.
