All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Luther Thomas "Preacher" Birdwell Funeral services for Mr. Luther Thomas "Preacher" Birdwell, 74, of Marthaville, were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, March 4, at Jennings Chapel Methodist Church in Marthaville, with Brother Ed Fenton officiating, assisted by brother Foster Jennings. Burial was in the Jennings Chapel Methodist Cemetery, under the direction or Rockett-Nettles Funeral Home of Coushatta. Mr. Birdwell died Friday, March 2, 1990, at Willis-Knighton Medical Center, following a brief illness. He was retired from the La. State Highway department, and was a member of the Methodist Church. He was a native, and lifelong resident of Marthaville. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Carolyn Birdwell. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Allie Birdwell of Marthaville; two daughters, Mrs. Deverne Coleman of Shreveport, Mrs. Mildred McPhearson of Marthaville; five sons, James Birdwell, Thomas Birdwell, Charles "Mott" Birdwell, all of Marthaville, Carl Birdwell of Shreveport, Lester Birdwell of Big Sandy, Texas; his mother, Mrs. Lottie Birdwell of Marthaville; seven brothers, Hoyt Birdwell, Raymond Birdwell, Harvey Birdwell, Herman Birdwell, Vernon Birdwell, Wilmer Birdwell, all of Marthaville, Odell Birdwell of Greenwood, La.; twenty two grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
