Birdwell, 68, of Marthaville, La., were held at 3 p.m., Thursday, June 4, at Jennings Chapel Congregational Methodist Church. Rev. Ed Fenton, Rev. Kenny Martin, and Rev. Foster Jennings officiated. Burial was held at McCaskill Cemetery at Marthaville, La., under the direction of Blanchard St.-Denis Funeral Home. Visitation was held at 4 p.m. until 10 p.m., Wednesday, June 3, at the funeral home, and 9 a.m. until service time at the church on Thursday, June 4. Mr. Birdwell died at 6:27 a.m., Tuesday, June 2, at Schumpert Medical Center in Shreveport, La. He was a native and lifelong resident of Marthaville, La. Mr. Birdwell was a member of Jennings Chapel Congregational Methodist Church, the Birdwell Brothers Quartet since the early 1950's, was a former member of the Natchitoches Parish School Board for thirty years, Selective Service Board for a number of years, and he was a disabled World War II veteran. He was an active civic and community leader and supporter. He was dearly loved and will surely be missed by his wife, sons, daughters-in-law, grandchildren, family, friends, and fans. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Maxine Jennings Birdwell of Marthaville, La.; four sons, Bobby D. Birdwell, Winston P. Birdwell, Dennis W. Birdwell of Marthaville, La., and Mervin Birdwell of Natchitoches, La.; mother, Mrs. Lottie Birdwell of Marthaville, La.; five brothers, Hoyt Birdwell, Raymond Birdwell, Herman Birdwell, Vernon Birdwell, and Wilmer Birdwell, all of Marthaville, La.; six grandchildren, Jennifer Birdwell, Nicole Birdwell, Trey Birdwell, Casey Birdwell, Katie Birdwell, and Wesley Birdwell. Pallbearers were nephews Marlin Birdwell, Lester Birdwell, George Birdwell, Gary Birdwell, Stacy Birdwell, Coy Birdwell, Hal Birdwell, and Mike Birdwell. Honorary pallbearers were Mike Whitford, Bill Bullock, Allen H. Plummer, Don Winn, Don Kelly, Jimmy Long, Sheriff Boyd B. Durr, Ernest Morgan, Dale Skinner, Joe Adcock, Truit (Red) Latham, Don Hatley, and Terry Kilgore.
