Birdwell, 77, of Marthaville, died Sunday, Jan. 31, at Willis-Knighton Medical Center in Shreveport. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 2, at Jennings Chapel Congregational Methodist Church in Marthaville, with interment following at Bethany Cemetery in Marthaville. The Rev. I. D. Noble, the Rev. Marvin Free, and the Rev. David Hill officiated. Mr. Birdwell was a native of Marthaville. He was a member of Jennings Chapel Congregational Methodist Church, and a veteran of WWII. He retired from the La. Dept. of Hwys., and was a caretaker of the Bethany Cemetery. Mr. Birdwell was one of the original members of Birdwell Quartet. He was the bass singer, and had sung at the World's Fair. Survivors include his widow, Myrle Birdwell of Marthaville; one son, George Birdwell of Marthaville; two daughters, Virginia Sandifer of Shreveport, and Audrey Sims of Haughton; and three brothers, Herman Birdwell, Vernon Birdwell, and Hoyt Birdwell, all of Marthaville. Pallbearers were Harold Birdwell Jr., Carl Birdwell, Marlan Birdwell, Coy Birdwell, Mervin Birdwell, Bruce Birdwell, Stacy Birdwell, Mike Birdwell, Doug Birdwell, Chad Sims, and Brad Sandifer.
