All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Bobby Dean Bertrand Bobby Dean Bertrand, 24, of Many, was killed in a one vehicle collision on La. 476, approximately 4.1 miles south of La. Highway 6 West, on Friday night, August 25, at 9 p.m., according to La. State Trooper Guy Singletary of Troop H. According to the wreck report, Bertrand was traveling south on the Negreet Road in his yellow 1967 International station wagon when the incident occurred. Bertrand was apparently traveling at a high rate of speed when his vehicle left the roadway and traveled 180 feet down the shoulder of the road. The vehicle crashed into a road sign, and then traveled 96 more feet and struck a light pole. The vehicle turned over and traveled 62 feet further down the road before coming to rest on its wheels. Bertrand was thrown from the vehicle. Passengers in the vehicle, Judy Bush, 14, and Debbie Smith, 14, both of Many, survived the crash. Miss Bush was uninjured, and Miss Smith received noticeable injuries. The front and the top of the vehicle were heavily damaged. Sabine Parish Coroner, Dr. W. W. Poimboeuf of Pleasant Hill, arrived at the scene and pronounced Bertrand dead from head injuries. Bertrand's body was transferred to Hixson Brothers Funeral Home in Alexandria. Funeral services were held at the Hixson Brothers Funeral Chapel on Monday, Aug. 29, at 10 a.m. Father Patrick Madden officiated. Burial was in the Alexandria Memorial Gardens. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Sara Bertrand of San Angelo, Tex.; one son, John Thomas Bertrand of Many; one daughter, Angela Monique Bertrand of San Angelo, Tex.; his father and stepmother, Mr. and Mrs. John H. Bertrand of Houston, Tex.; his mother and stepfather, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond L. Johnson Sr. of Many; two brothers, James E. Bertrand of Alexandria, and David A. Bertrand of Pineville; a stepsister, Mrs. Carolyn King of Alexandria; three step brothers, Raymond L. Johnson Jr. of Glenmora, and Robert B. Stoddard, and Dartman Stoddard, both of Houston, Tex.; and his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Gladys Gardiner of Marksville. Pallbearers were Raymond Johnson Jr., Richard Wren, Bruce Pearce, Raymond LaCour, Leslie Stokes, and Rodney Stickels.
