All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** The Sabine Index - Rufus Brown 22 Jan 1937 - Rufus Brown, 59, of Many Route 4 died at his home Friday, January 15 after a short illness. Mr. Brown was born in Kidder, Ky. He had been a resident of Many for the past eight years coming here from Caddo parish. Deceased had been a successful planter at Gilliam for 20 years before moving to Sabine, when he retired on account of bad health. Mr. Brown served in the U. S. Army from 1898 to 1904, during which time he served in the Spanish-American war. Deceased was married to Dora Pittman in 1905, having no children of his own, but reared two orphan boys, Archie Brown of Oklahoma and Jack Woodson of Many, Route 4. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at Ft. Jesup with Rev. J. B. Williams conducting the last rites. Interment was in the Ft. Jesup cemetery.
