The Rev. Ed Dilworth, and the Rev. Walter Garriott officiated. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. He died at 1:45 a.m., Sunday, May 22, 1983, at the Pleasant Hill Hospital, after a lengthy illness. Mr. Barnes, longtime resident of the Pleasant Hill area, was a member of the Pleasant Hill Methodist Church, and the American Legion. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Walter P. Barnes of Pleasant Hill; three sons, Kenneth G. Barnes of Chalmette, La., Walter R. Barnes, and Alfred Wayne Barnes, both of Picayune, Miss.; one daughter, Deborah Ann Smith of Picayune, Miss.; five brothers, Bob Barnes, and Jerry M. Barnes, both of Pleasant Hill, Roy W. Barnes of LaCombe, La., Gordon D. Barnes of Florida, LeVassuer H. Barnes of Cedar, Mich.; two sisters, Shirley J. Neal, and Pat B. Durr, both of Pleasant Hill; eleven grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews. Under the direction of the Warren Meadows Funeral Home.
