Brumley 14 Jul 1939 - Last rites for J. B. Brumley (or Uncle Jim, as he was known), age 81 years, two months and 16 days, were held last Thursday evening at 3:30 p.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist church, with Rev. S. O. Olivier officiating, Rev. Elbert Brown assisting. Music was led by E. O. Lites. Funeral directed by Dennis-Green funeral home. Pallbearers were R. B. Jackson, Tom Lites, Louis Vines, R. L. Clark, H. S. Sebren and Harvey Self. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. J. B. Brumley; five sons, W. H., J. B. Jr., O. E., J. D., and W. B. Brumley; all of Many; one daughter, Mrs. S. F. Webb of Many and a large number of grandchildren, besides numerous friends to mourn his passing. Truly the community has lost a great friend. Mr. Brumley was a pioneer singing teacher, having taught many of the leading singers of the present day. He and the late Rev. T. J. Lites were of the same community and were closely associated together in church and community work, and they were two of the charter members of the Mt. Zion Baptist church. Mr. Brumley was always found fighting for that which is right, and to have known him was to love him.
