He was born March 3, 1916, in Bethsadia, a small community near Many. As a World War II veteran, he served his country during the occupation of Japan, as a member of the 1190th Combat Engineer Battalion. Mr. Cooper received the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. He was a member of the Many Masonic Lodge #411. He had resided in the Carolinas for the past 16 years. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 29, in Cooper Funeral Home Chapel in Dillon, S. C., with burial following at Greenlawn Cemetery in Dillon, S. C. Survivors include his widow of 46 years, Mrs. Bertha Elva Wedgeworth Cooper, formerly of Fort Jesup; children, Bennie James Cooper of Keithville, Elsie Mary McGraw of Keithville, Janice Carolyn Brown of Hornbeck, Patsy Clara Sandel of Fayetteville, N. C., Brenda Gail Brewster of Fredericksburg, Va., Audrey Dianne Clarson of Chesapeake, Va., and Kathy Jane Cooper of Linden. N. C.; sister, Marie Oxley of Bossier City; 14 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends. Cooper Funeral Home, Fayetteville, N. C.
