Cox of Huntsville died Thursday, June 21, 2001, after a lengthy illness. Services were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 23, at First United Methodist Church in Huntsville, with interment following at Smithfield Cemetery in Richland Hills, Texas, Tarrant County. Mr. Cox was born in Leflore, Okla., March 12, 1923, to Charles and Ethel Cox. He served 4 1/2 years in the US Navy, from 1941 - 1945. He participated in eight engagements in the South Pacific, including 2 1/2 years on the USS Saragoga aircraft carrier. He received a BS degree from TCU, and worked 30 years in the oil and gas industry. In 1988, he retired to the Huntsville area. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, and many community organizations, including Forrest Masonic Lodge #19 of Huntsville, Scottish Rite, Sam Houston Shrine Club, AAPG, and also the Houston Geological Society. Survivors include his widow, Julia Davis Cox of Huntsville, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, David and Kay Cox of Huntsville; and three grandchildren, Travis, Alicia, and Juliane Boudreaux.
