Eugene E. Cox died at his home in Converse on May 28, 1999. He was born July 10, 1920, in Hutchinson, Kan. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 1, at Oak Grove Cemetery. Full military honors were conducted. Lt. Col Cox joined the Kansas National Guard in 1937, and served in the European theatre during WWII, participating in the Battle of the Bulge, Ruhr, and on the Rhine, as well as landing on Normandy Beach in the D-Day invasion. He remained in Germany until 1947, as part of the Army of Occupation. A graduate of the Command General Staff College, his military career encompassed a tour of duty in the Panama Canal Zone, acting as an Intelligence Officer to Latin American nations, as well as in Turkey as an advisor to the Turkish Army stationed on the Turkish-Russian border. In addition, he was assigned to the ? Washington D.C. until 1961, where, after nearly 25 years of distinguished service, he made the decision to retire. In civilian life, he worked at North American Rockwell in Anaheim, Calif., moving to Dallas, Texas in 1977, and ultimately to Converse in 1983. He was a member of the Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge, 35th Div. Association, VFW Post No. 5187 and Hon. Member of the La. Sheriffs Association. Living in his memory are his Widow, Marcia Brando Cox of Converse; two daughters, Cherie L. and Leon Southern of Liberal, Kan., Jill M. Cox and Brian Skelly of Tuckahoe, N. Y.; two grandchildren, Gena and Jimmy Hampton of Turpin, Okla., and Shon L. Hatfield of Tyler, Texas; And two great grandchildren, Cherie Dawn Hampton, and Jacob P. Hampton, both of Turpin, Okla. Lt. Cox was preceded in death by His parents, Lloyd B. Cox, and Maude Davis Cox of Hutchinson, Kan. Warren Meadows, Many, La.
