Officiating was the Rev. William Campbell. Burial was in the Sardis Cemetery, under the direction of Drewett Funeral Home. Mr. Cates, a lifelong resident of the Converse Community, died at 7:30 Friday, July 20, in Pleasant Hill Hospital, following a lengthy illness. He was an oilfield driller. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Marguerite Dykes Cates; two children, Ralph Cates of Converse, and Donald Cates of Dallas; six grandchildren; three great grandchildren; two brothers, Unez Cates of Westlake, and Elbert Nash Cates of Centerville, Tex.; and five sisters, Vera Barnett of Longview, Lertie Nash of Minden, Inez Cates of Shreveport, Anita Jones of Houston, and Venita Dugell of New York City.
