The Rev. Fred Doolittle officiated. Burial was at Oak Grove Cemetery near Converse. Mr. Cates died suddenly, Sunday morning, March 15, 1986, at his residence in West Lake. He had been a resident of West Lake for nineteen years. He was a veteran of World War II. He was a pipefitter. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Zelma Fox Cates of West Lake; one son, Walter Cates of Monroe, La.; one grandson, Andy Cates of Jackson, Miss.; one brother, Elbert Nash of Cleveland, Texas; four sisters, Mrs. R. H. Barnett of Longview, Texas, Lertie Nash of Minden, La., Anita Jones of Bay City, Texas, and Venita DeGia of Farmington, N. Y.
