Officiating was the Rev. Peyton Bass Jr. Interment followed in Zion's Rest Cemetery near Pleasant Hill. Mrs. Cates died Saturday, March 14, at Highland Hospital, after a lengthy illness. She was a native of Mansfield, and lived in Wallace Community. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. John R. Cates Sr., and her brother, Meddie M. Davis Jr. Survivors include her daughter, Nancy Stutts Howie of Shreveport; two sons, Freddie Stutts of Mansfield, and John R. Cates Jr. of Pleasant Hill; five brothers, Joel M. Davis, and Percy L. Davis, both of Vidalia, Chester C. Davis of Shreveport, John T. Davis of Wisner, and Tom H. Davis of Winnsboro; five grandchildren, Lamar Howie of Cherry Point, N. C., Kevin, and Landon Stutts of Mansfield, and Stacy, and Sara Cates of Pleasant Hill. Pallbearers were members of the Pleasant Hill Masonic Lodge #230.
