Cates, 30, of Converse, was killed in an oil well accident Monday. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., in the Oak Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. Avon Cavanaugh, and the Rev. M. P. Plunkett officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. He is survived by his widow; two sons, Charles A. Cates, and Dennis R. Cates, both of Converse; his mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Cates of Converse, La.; two brothers, Ralph V. Cates of Converse, and Donald L. Cates of Ft. Knox, Ky.
