Thomas Newton Clinkscales, 71, of Florien, were held at 3:30 p.m., Sunday, October 30, at the Florien First Baptist Church. The Rev. Mack Brister, the Rev. J. P. Stockman, and the Rev. Harvey Headrick officiated. Burial was at Florien Cemetery. Plans were under the direction of Warren Meadows Funeral Home in Many, La. The Rev. Clinkscales died at 12:55 a.m., Saturday, October 29, 1983, at the Sabine Medical Center in Many, after a long illness. He started his missionary work as an associational missionary in Montague County, Texas, 1937-1941, and served 27 years, 1941-1968 in Brazil as a missionary of Foreign Mission Board, and the Southern Baptist Convention, under the Home Mission Board in the New England area. He served among the Portuguese culture from 1968 to 1981. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Rosalie Clinkscales of Florien; three sons, James Floyd Clinkscales of Homestead, Fla., Louis Thomas Clinkscales of Florien, and Dale Nelson Clinkscales of Tiverton, R. I.; three daughters, Priscilla Ann Costa of Tiverton, R. I., Mary Alice Clinkscales of Florien, and Tina McCormic of Many, La.; four brothers, John Clinkscales of Talladego, Ala., Clarence Clinkscales of Auburn, Ala., Milton Clinkscales of Milton, Ala., and Louis Clinkscales of Vincent, Ala.; three sisters, Mrs. Lola Bryant of Goodwater, Ala., Mrs. Kate Justice of Vincent, Ala., and Mrs. Mildred Galbraith of Espanola, N. M.; nine grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
