Reverend Kenneth Waters officiated. Collins was born February 10, 1914, in Many. She was the only daughter of Felix and Zena Nelson. She became acquainted with Christ at an early age, and was baptized at St. Stephens Baptist Church in Kansas City, Mo. Bessie went to California in 1939, and united with Vermont Square Methodist Church in Los Angeles shortly thereafter, where she served continually. After retirement, Bessie became a dedicated volunteer with the American Lung Association for many years. Bessie's thoughtfulness will always be remembered. Even throughout her illness, she continued to give words of encouragement, and send cards to others. Bessie had one son, Leo, who predeceased her. She leaves to mourn, two brothers, Harold Nelson of Philadelphia, and Robert Nelson of Parsons, Kansas; one stepson, Darryl Collins of Los Angeles; one aunt, Ida Pugh of Many; three nieces; three nephews; and a host of relatives and friends. Honorary pallbearers were Mose Covington, Fredie Dee, James L. Flournoy, Clarence Gilispe, George Jackson Jr., Vincent Nelson, and Frank C. Sweet.
